Rabbi Mordechai and
Henny Machlis run the largest home-based hospitality center in
Israel.
Hundreds of people join the Machlis family for a
multi-course, inspirational, educational, fun and festive Shabbat
celebration each and every week.
In additional to Shabbat
programs, the Machlises run a family-centered homeless shelter and
soup kitchen out of their modest apartment where Jerusalem's
indigent know that they have a place to get a home cooked meal,
medical assistance and wise counsel from the Rabbi and his wife as
they assist them in getting back on their feet.
It's no
exaggeration to say that since opening their home-based hospitality
center in Jerusalem Rabbi Mordechai and Henny Machlis have been
instrumental in saving the lives of dozens of people, ameliorating
the unfortunate conditions of hundreds of the poor or otherwise
suffering and inspiring literally hundreds of
thousands of visitors, Jewish and non-Jewish, from around
the world.
They're located at 137/26 Maalot Dafna in
Jerusalem and you are personally invited by the Rabbi and his wife
to visit on your next trip to Jerusalem. No prior call is necessary
to join them and their family for any of the Shabbat or Holiday
meals but they can be reached in any case at 02-581-0786 (from the
United States call 011-9722-581-0786).
For years the
Machlises absorbed the entirety of the cost of their manifold chesed
activities on their own but recently the sheer enormity of their
chesed projects have overwhelmed their own incomes as teachers and
professors and they welcome assistance and partnerships with
like-minded friends interested in being a part of their
organization's chesed.
Contributions in any amount are
greatly appreciated.
A gift of $100 covers the cost of a
5-course Shabbat meal for a full table of 8 while a gift of $500
feeds dozens of meals to Jerusalem's poor over the course of an
entire week. In addition, sponsorship opportunities are available
where a full Shabbat can be sponsored for just $3000 and an
entire week of all of the Machlis's thousands of Chesed
activities (including providing housing for the
homeless, food and clothing for the destitute, a weekly Torah
gathering on Tuesday evenings, arranging for visitors and caregivers
for the sick and lonely, etc.) for $4000.
Should you
choose to sponsor a particular Shabbat or full week of
Chesed L'orchim's activities in honor of a loved one please email
Moshe the details at chesed.lorchim@gmail.com or
call him at 760-880-1584.
