Most people post after attending a warm Shabbas evening with you, however I felt compelled to write to tell you how excited we are about our upcoming trip to Jerusalem. My family and I have been searching for a place to have a "family shabbas" when my old time friend Jeff Seidel recommended your home. After researching on the internet I came across your website and guest book. I want you to know what a mitzvah you are doing and that your generosity and compassion is felt thousands of miles away many days before our trip. The excitement we have and peace we have felt knowing there is a place we can go to welcome in the sabbath is truly emotional! We look forward to seeing you June 11th, 2010. The Bloom's and Englander's (11 of us total, 5 adults and 6 children). |

We had the absolute pleasure of attending a Shabbat at your home on our last night in Jerusalem. It was a perfect ending to our incredible two week trip. Your hospitality, warmth and kindness is overwhelming. I loved being shoulder to shoulder with strangers who were so engaged and happy. Your words and those of others resonated with me. Thank you to you and your family for opening your home and preparing a feast, amazing execution. |

Wow, this website is great! I had Shabbos by the famous Machlises for the first time and it's an amazing experience! Thank you Moshe Rudner for setting this up and for helping me out by email in answering my questions. When I have the ability to give maaser it's going to be my greatest pleasure to give it to the machlis experience. What a Kiddush Hashem! When I go back to Israel I can't wait to have shabbos with the Rav again and if he (Rabbi Machlis) or anyone in his family is reading this, I just can't tell you how much I appreciate what you do. You inspired me and I'm going to do what I can to take that inspiration and try and try to spread it around here back in NY. And Moshe Rudner, thank you again, for ALL of your help, and your useful directions to the Rabbi's house and for setting up this website and running this fundraising campaign. I appreciate it so much! And to anyone who is reading this but hasn't had a shabbos with the machlises I really just have ti say Go! You'll experience the most inspiring shabbos with every kind of Israeli and American-Israeli possible. And, if you can, PLEASE help fund the Machlises so that they'll be able to continue this most amazing kiddush Hashem you could possibly imagine. Thank you. |

Quite by accident I ended up meeting the Machlises while visiting Israel a few years ago for some work I was doing at the Technion. I was accosted by the friendliest man I'd ever met at the Wailing Wall who invited me to join him for a meal. I wasn't inclined (nor am I now) to accept invitations from strangers but he was so overwhelmingly exuberant that I decided I would go for the cultural experience of seeing how such a person lived. And I have to say that I wasn't disappointed. I'm lucky enough in my personal and professional life to be surrounded by kind, generous and loving people but what Mordechai and Henny are truly in a category all of their own. I found this article just now by searching for information about them as I'm contemplating another trip to Israel this summer. I hope they're doing well and I absolutely loved reading this piece. I'm an atheist and am usually skeptical of stories that are told about the righteousness of some hidden "wise man" but, I have to tell you, I spent the whole afternoon that Saturday, from 1 to 10, experiencing the love and generosity of the Machlises and seeing their impact on their community and I have no difficulty picturing the events of this article in my mind's eye. I wish there were more people in the world like Mordechai and thank you Jewish Press and Moshe Rudner for bringing back those excellent memories |

Rabbi, I have had the immense pleasure to daven with you at the Kosel a few times when I travel to Israel. I have never had the honor of eating at your home, however I am planning to study this Summer 2010 at Ohr Samayach in Maalot Dafna. I am bringing my wife and kids and pray we will have an opportunity to experience Shabbos with you and your family. I have "returned" to Torah and Mitzvos and have become Shommer Shabbos over the last 4 years. I am 47 years old but I want the experience of attending and learning in Yeshiva in Eretz Yisroel. I am looking to rent an apartment in Maaalot Dafna for this summer if you know of any or a realtor I can speak with please guide me in the direction. I look forward to seeing and celebrating Shabbos with you this Summer! I pray for only good things for you and your family. You should be matzliach in every thing you do. I will give tzedakah in your honor and help you on a periodic basis because I feel you are a genuine soul and will do the right thing. Bracha V' Hatzlacha, Yechezkel |
