Dear Rabbi Mordechai and Henny Machlis: I read about your incredible kindness toward your fellow Jews in the book by Sara Yocheved Rigler. It is truly amazing that you open your home and your hearts to so many Jews on Shabbos and during the week and that you are so incredibly caring that you help the Jews that every one else shuns, like the homeless and the mentally ill. Your commitment to living the Jewish ideals in all its aspects is wonderful. I have no idea how you balance your full-time chesed with your fourteen children, but I admire you and thank you for your kindness. Your story was amazingly inspiring to me and is motivating me to show more kindness to fellow Jews in need. Sincerely, Ms. Rebecca Witonsky |

Hi Rabbi Machlis! I was at your home for the last friday night Shabat Meal with a friend who is looking for being more religious. We sat in the same table with the Rabbi. I'm sure that the whole atmosphere influenced me and him a lot, and therefore, I wanted to thank you about the hospilaty and for everything else. Sincerally, Iossi Katri iokatri@hotmail.com |

Dear Rabbi and Henny, This is to thank you for your hospitality and kindness. It really means a lot to me to see the love and hachnasat orchim in your home. I would also like to ask if anyone at your last wedding returned my umbrella, which I lent to someone I don't know, during the chuppah. Wishing you and your guests a fruitful, healthy summer of shlaymut haAretz and binyan haMikdash. and kabbalat haTorah with simcha and pnimiyut. M |

Dear Rabbi & Rebbetzin Machlis, It's an honor to be able to post a comment on your webpage. Eight years ago, I was blessed to be connected with you for one of my very first Shabbat experiences in Jerusalem. I have remembered you always, and I've kept in mind the amazing energy of kedushah that you shared with me so long ago. You made such a deep impression on me- as people actualizing the concept of One People (&, truly, One World)- all through Torah living. I have tried, on countless occasions over the years, to describe your family's chessed and warmth, when attempting to convey the depth and beauty of my Israel experiences. Words are simply insufficient. In planning for my upcoming return to Israel (with my parents, one of my sisters, and six other relatives!!!), I stumbled across your website! I'm overjoyed that I will, again, have the opportunity to spend Shabbat with you and that I will be able to fully share such an inspirational experience with my family! Thank you always!!!! Sincerely, Becky |

I was there when it all began in 1979. I was a student at Ohr Someyach, which was right near their apartment. I would often bring people there for a Shabbos seuda. My daughter, who is attending a seminary in Eretz Yisroel this year mentioned to me that she and her friends sometimes eat there. She told me there was a website so I came to this site and donated to this worthy endeavor. Tizku L'Mitzvot Shammai Linsky |

I was a Tel Aviv University student in 1990 when I had the privilege of having Shabbat lunch at your home (hi to Mindi!). When I found out about this web site, I couldn't believe it...I was not observant at that time, but as a result of many uplifting Shabbat experiences -- including those at your house -- I am proud to say I am now! As a writer and editor, I also wrote a little piece about your family for the New Jersey Jewish News, where I work. It will be published in our upcoming Israel at 60 supplement! My husband and I would also like to make a donation. Tizku le'mitzvot! |
