I was alone & lost in Yerushalayim on my first Shabbat. Going to a hotel alone was not what I had anticipated. A man stepped up to me on the street and said: "Follow me". I had nothing to loose, I did. My first miracle there was ending up at the Machlis' home for Shabbat!
This family is like G D with skin on visiting us on Shabbat. May this family be helped financially. I pray somebody will donate them a nice X-LARGE house. They deserve it.

Dear Rabbi Machlis,
I thank you for welcoming to your shabbat table may 29, 2010. Some thoughts entered my mind during the meal. We are all souls and hashem gives us a body and mind to be part of his creation. Some people have strong successful beautiful bodies and minds, and some people have a life that is very difficult, they are lacking in mental ability and physical ability and these people have been given a much more difficult life. A much more difficult test in this world. They are like heros to endure so much difficulty and hardship. My life is easier in many ways. Why did hashem give me such and easy trip. There is only one reason. To help and love those that I can help. To give me people to help. This love between people is where hashem exists. Its like a spiritual energy activated between the two souls. You can love greatest when the need is greatest, when the help is greatest. YOU have shown me the acceptance of the less fortunate and the love you have for them. We are all connected, hashem exists when we are all connected and caring for each other. Then we are bodiless souls in a world of love. Hashem bless you and continue your great work of bringing souls together in acceptance and love.

Dear Rabbi Machlis

We had a shabbat meal at your house on Sivan 9/May 22/parsha Nasso after a wonderful service at the kotel where you read the Torah near the mechitzah and gave everyone kiddush. You gave us a devar Torah during the meal about the necessity to better and refine oneself, citing Rabbi Israel Salanter. You explained to us that we should always give the benefit of the doubt to others and refrain from criticizing people whom we don't know; you compared them to a book that we open at chapter 30 without reading the previous chapters...Thank you for a very inspiring meal, for your kindness and generous heart, thank you to your children and wife who cook and serve anyone delicious and abundant food. Some people would show up late and you would always say there is room, come in, we have chairs here. May all of us have room and chairs in our soul and hearts to welcome and love strangers, fellow Jews, as you do.

Most people post after attending a warm Shabbas evening with you, however I felt compelled to write to tell you how excited we are about our upcoming trip to Jerusalem. My family and I have been searching for a place to have a "family shabbas" when my old time friend Jeff Seidel recommended your home. After researching on the internet I came across your website and guest book. I want you to know what a mitzvah you are doing and that your generosity and compassion is felt thousands of miles away many days before our trip. The excitement we have and peace we have felt knowing there is a place we can go to welcome in the sabbath is truly emotional! We look forward to seeing you June 11th, 2010.

We had the absolute pleasure of attending a Shabbat at your home on our last night in Jerusalem. It was a perfect ending to our incredible two week trip. Your hospitality, warmth and kindness is overwhelming. I loved being shoulder to shoulder with strangers who were so engaged and happy. Your words and those of others resonated with me. Thank you to you and your family for opening your home and preparing a feast, amazing execution.

Dear Rabbi Mordecai & Henny Machlis,

I wish to Thank You both for opening your wonderful home up to many people from around the world including myself. I have been to your home about four times now with different friends, and everytime I have been impressed with your generousity and the wonderful food.

Wow, this website is great! I had Shabbos by the famous Machlises for the first time and it's an amazing experience! Thank you Moshe Rudner for setting this up and for helping me out by email in answering my questions. When I have the ability to give maaser it's going to be my greatest pleasure to give it to the machlis experience. What a Kiddush Hashem!

When I go back to Israel I can't wait to have shabbos with the Rav again and if he (Rabbi Machlis) or anyone in his family is reading this, I just can't tell you how much I appreciate what you do. You inspired me and I'm going to do what I can to take that inspiration and try and try to spread it around here back in NY. And Moshe Rudner, thank you again, for ALL of your help, and your useful directions to the Rabbi's house and for setting up this website and running this fundraising campaign. I appreciate it so much!

And to anyone who is reading this but hasn't had a shabbos with the machlises I really just have ti say Go! You'll experience the most inspiring shabbos with every kind of Israeli and American-Israeli possible. And, if you can, PLEASE help fund the Machlises so that they'll be able to continue this most amazing kiddush Hashem you could possibly imagine.

Thank you.
